I was talking to my nurse-friend over the phone who was complaining about her patient last night when I came across a news article. She said that the patient was confused because of the morphine injected to her to ease the pain so that the whole night, the woman was asking what was the date over and over.
I asked her how come I was not confused when I was given morphine in the hospital. She said jokingly that no amount of painkiller or anaesthesia can put me down. True, when I had my surgery, I complained to the doctor why I was not sedated. I was awake the whole process although I could not feel the pain. Bwahaha.
But this is not the issue of this blogpost.
This is about a pregnant woman who was exposed to radiation because of mistake of hospital staff.
Here is the excerpt of the news:
But then they told the Higueras there was something else they needed to know. "They said, 'We made a mistake; we did something we shouldn't have done,' and I was like, 'What do you mean?'" Higuera remembers. "They said 'There's another patient here named Kerry, and you two are the same age. We mixed you up. She was supposed to have the CT scan, not you.' "
While no large studies have been done on the effects on the fetus of performing a CT scan to a pregnant woman's abdomen, experts say a fetus exposed to radiation can, in some cases, develop physical and mental growth problems.
ULTRASOUND
When I had my ultrasound after my mammogram showed abnormal growth in my right breast, the technician prepped my left breast. I remember the lady from the mammography section that it was my right breast.
So I told the guy that it was my right, not my left. Yon pala ang understanding niya ay right NIYA so ang left breast ko ay kanan niya, Di ba istupido. hay patawarin ako.
MEDICAL RECORDS
1. Say: "My name is Mary Smith, my date of birth is October 21, 1965, and I'm here for an appendectomy." You might feel like an idiot, but say this to every doctor, nurse, and technician who takes care of you.
2. Say: "Please check my ID bracelet."
Ang dami kong collection niyan.
3. Say: "Please look in my chart and tell me what procedure I'm having."
If a nurse states that you're having an appendectomy and she's right, that's not enough, because that nurse won't necessarily be there with you in the operating room.
4. Say: "I want to mark up my surgical site with the surgeon present."
Ako dalawang mark ang ginawa. Kasi dalawang butas ang ginawa. Sumusobra sila. Tseh.
5. Be impolite.
No need to advice me.
