Sirenomelia-Ano raw?

Dear insansapinas,

When my mother was still alive, our breakfasts during weekends  lasted for more than two hours because she had a lot of stories to tell. I called them breakfast  instead of bedroom stories. But before I tell you one story which was unbelievable but she swore was true is about a sireno or a merman  let us read this news about a baby who was born with mermaid or sirenomelia syndrome.

Jane Sariba, 18, said she gave birth last July 31 inside their house in Barangay Matuog-tuog.She said she was surprised that her baby was born with fused legs, like a mermaid.
Sariba said that during her pregnancy, she was an avid watcher of a TV soap opera that had a young mermaid as the lead character. She said she brought the baby to a hospital after the delivery but the baby died along the way.A neonatologist said the baby had sirenomelia, also known as mermaid syndrome, which is a very rare congenital deformity in which the legs are fused together, giving them the appearance of a mermaid's tail.

This happened in Mercedes, Camarines Norte, a fish port where the means of sale transaction is thru whispers. Bulungan, baga.

Now the story of my mother was about a baby of a fisherman's wife. It was a merman. So probably at that time, they did not know that there is such a thing as sirenomelia syndrome.

The wife said that every time her husband went out for fishing at night, someone visited her which she could not refuse because of his hypnotic effect on her.

Her family believed her because of the baby's form except that his legs were not fused. What can not be explained was the horde of fish that were found in their "batalan" every morning.
