After my vacation in the Philippines last January, I finished a book on Financial Management. No it was not plagiarized. This is not my first time to write a book. Research is my second vice. I taught the subject in the university and I practised it in the industry both in the Philippines and the US.
I was comissioned by a friend to write three. No contract, no agreement. I trusted her. I finished only one. Hindi na kaya ng health ko.
Before I sent her the manuscript, she asked for a favor. It is not about money. It is accommodation of her protege to a university where she thinks I still have the clout. I realized, she really did not know me. I don't use my influence, not even for an immediate relative. My tsikiting gubats knew that when they applied to the university. They had to do it on their own even when I could make a call to some influential friends.
The dean e-mailed me. She said that the lady tried to persuade her to ignore the grades and the eligibility rules. The dean was my protege. She knew I would not violate policies which I adopted and strongly enforced during my time. She was just a new faculty member then. She refused the request.
After finishing the draft, I zipped it to her. No response if she received it via e-mail. I called her over the phone. She did not call back. After several e-mails, she responded. She said she got it. Just like that.
Then no news. I asked our common friends what happened to her? They offered to follow up for me. I dissuaded them. May hinala na ako.
One of my tsikiting gubats asked me what if she publishes it without my credit. The first time he asked, I told him that she is too rich to be interested in such a project.
The second time, he asked, I told him that sometimes rich people want more, and more and more.
Look at those who are in the top list of the richest men in the Philippines. How can they enjoy the competition as to who is the richest when their employees earn salaries which could hardly put food on their tables? Mas gusto pa nilang i-outsource ang iba nilang operation rather than provide employment to people who are in dire need of paychecks every end of the month just because the business would like to cut corners. Yon bang pati yong kanto, aalisin nila. acheche.
I am not writing this because I am angry with that friend of mine. I have the corrections as well as the answers to the problems at the back of each chapter. Well, I admit that would not deter her from publishing it because she can easily provide those easily.
My favorite dean offered to adopt the book in their university should I publish it. I declined. I do not need the stress and aggravations. Even if my time in the world is extended, I do not want to pursue it anymore. It is not in my bucket list. Trusting people is not exactly news about me. I have always been trusting people because I think I am also trustworthy. In other words, madali akong lokohin. mwehehe.
Actually, this blog was inspired by this article. Prrrrst.
Ang titulo ko dito ay mga GANID.
The Wall Street executives with their obscene compensation packages now earn more than they did before we bailed them out. Not enough! With the middle class collapsing and the rich getting much richer, the United States now has, by far, the most unequal distribution of income and wealth of any major country on earth. Not enough!
The very rich want more, more and more and they are prepared to dismantle the existing political and social order to get it. During the last campaign, as a result of the (Republican) Supreme Court's Citizens United decision, billionaires were able to pour hundreds of millions of dollars of secret money into the campaign -- helping to elect dozens of members of Congress. Now, having made their investment, they want their congressional employees to produce.
