The Face that Launched a Thousand Smiles
Dear insansapinas,
Personal:
Ah the lady in front the mail box. Naalala niya.
MAY DUGO PA RAW AKONG NATITIRA. mwahahaha.
Kapag mga babaeng tinatawag na "bearer of the race" aka
Simple but brilliant idea. Acheche

Tiger Mother -How do you raise your children
Dear insansapinas,
photocredit: MSNBC
Are you a tiger mother? Then you may be in the category of Amy Chua, a Chinese -American and a professor at Yale University who authored the book, Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother.
Mothers bragged about their children. Bloggers even offer parenting advice. Their children wrote nothing but praises to their parents for the way they were brought up. If you read the articles they wrote, you will have the wrong impression that theirs is an ideal parent-children relationship.
Chua's book offered how to produce children who are math whizzes and music prodigies.
The excerpt from her book which elicited online arguments say:
“A lot of people wonder how Chinese parents produce so many math whizzes and music prodigies, what it’s like inside the family, and whether they could do it too,” she writes. “Well, I can tell them, because I’ve done it.”
To which rebuttals from readers regarded the book as merely bragging,''
According to Samatha Leese, a Hong Kong jouranlist: :
Although I wanted my children to excel, I did not go to the extent of pressuring them to produce all A's. Never , I told them that " noon ako ang taas ng grades ko" to make them realize that they had to work harder.
Neither did I call them names like what the author did when her children got low ratings or fell below her expectations.
Call your children moron or stupid and it will stick. They may become successful in their career but the hurt self steem would never heal.
In their dark moments, it is the demons that they are going to battle.
I wanted my tsikiting gubat to study piano. So I bought one. (slap self). Toinkk

Her daughters, she preaches, were never allowed to attend a sleepover, be in a school play, choose their own extracurricular activities or get any grade less than an A.
They had to be the “number one student in every subject except gym and drama."
Chua advises that if your children must engage in sports, “the only activities [they] should be permitted to do are those in which they can eventually win a medal, and that medal must be gold.”
And that, dear white people, is how you raise a genius.
The biggest problem I have with Chua’s position is not her draconian parenting per se. It isn’t even her racist approach to this book.
Rather, it is the author’s assumption that a) all parents want the same, narrow model of success for their children, b) all children thrive on the same, narrow path to that success, and c) only Chinese mothers take that path, so any woman who doesn’t is not a Chinese mother.
Personally, I think the publisher and author were successful to make the book controversial.
Although I wanted my children to excel, I did not go to the extent of pressuring them to produce all A's. Never , I told them that " noon ako ang taas ng grades ko" to make them realize that they had to work harder.

One summer,
Plane waited for the passenger
Dear insansapinas,
Here is the news:
Noong ang eruplano ay parang jeep sa akin sa aking mga travels, there were three instances when the pilot did not leave until the last passenger was accounted for.
So palit kami ng eruplano.
"we've been waiting for you" . You're the last passenger who had not reported yet. Hanep, hinintay nila ako.
Naghihintay. Akala ko importanteng pasahero. Hindi naman pala. Yong katabi ko.
3. Hindi naman ako ang pasahero. Ang aking sis-in-law. Nasa HK airport sila. May stop-over silang 2 hours yata. May missing passenger.

Here is the news:
(CNN) -- Time was running out, and Mark Dickinson wasn't sure whether he'd get to see his dying 2-year-old grandson one last time. A long line at Los Angeles International Airport's security checkpoint had kept him from getting to his gate on time.
His grandson Caden would be taken off life support in a matter of hours in Denver, Colorado, with or without his grandfather's presence.
"I was kind of panicking because I was running late, and I really thought I wasn't going to make the flight," Dickinson told
That's when a pilot from Southwest Airlines stepped up and held the flight at the gate until Dickinson arrived. The pilot was standing by the jetway waiting for him when Dickinson arrived in socks, so rushed that he just grabbed his shoes at security and ran through the terminal.
"I told him, 'Thank you so much. I can't tell you how much I appreciated that.' And he said, 'No problem. They can't leave without me anyway,' " Dickinson told KABC.

The Juror that meows
Dear insansapinas,
Talagang pusa. Putsa naman.

Anna Esposito, wrote to Suffolk Superior Crown Court in Boston, US, to explain that a mistake had been made, but a jury commissioner replied saying the cat, named Tabby Sal, "must attend" on March 23.
Mrs Esposito had included a letter from her vet confirming that the cat was "a domestic short-haired neutered feline".
Tabby Sal had been entered by Mrs Esposito under the 'pets' section of the last census. "When they ask him guilty or not guilty? What's he supposed to say - miaow?" She said.

Menopausal Moments -Social Security sa Pinas
Dear insansapinas,
Pero ang sweldo, however. Yon bang bibigyan ka ng mga Duties and Responsibilities however your compensation is blah blah blah.
The Social Security System (SSS) has filed charges against the parents of former celebrity doctor Hayden Kho Jr. and other officers of a business company which allegedly failed to remit its workers’ contributions to the agency totaling more than P843,000.

Steve Jobs on a medical leave after liver transplant
Dear insansapinas,
Cancer comes back after it has been successfully treated. I cannot say it recurs because it may not be the same organ that is affected but other organs.
Lucky are those who completely survived the disease for a long time. Different types of cancer have different survival rates. There are treatable and there are terminal. Even the people who can avail of the latest and most expensive treatment are not sure of their complete healing.
Like Steve Jobs of APPLE.

Lucky are those who completely survived the disease for a long time. Different types of cancer have different survival rates. There are treatable and there are terminal. Even the people who can avail of the latest and most expensive treatment are not sure of their complete healing.
Like Steve Jobs of APPLE.
In 2004, Jobs disclosed that he had been diagnosed with this rare form of pancreatic cancer and had been treated with surgery -- and told he was cured.
Five years later, he had his liver removed and received a transplant, indicating that the cancer had metastasized. The liver is the most common place for pancreatic cancers to spread, because blood flows from one organ to the other.
According to a report by University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill abdominal transplant surgeon Dr. David A. Gerber, liver metastases are the main cause of death for patients with this type of cancer -- so a transplant significantly can prolong survival.
But transplants pose their own risks, particularly with cancer patients.
That's because the immunosuppressant drugs, needed to prevent rejection, make the body less able to fend off infections or new malignancies.
Moreover, if any tiny pockets of cancer cells remain, hidden, the introduction of these immune-suppressing drugs can cause them to flare up, Dr. Anthony Heaney, an endocrinologist at UCLA's Ronald Reagan Medical Center, told The Los Angeles Times. So transplants are only performed if doctors believe the cancer is completely gone.
Balikbayan Box Industry
Dear insansapinas,
luggage ay tatlo for check-in sa domestic airport. Muntik kong dalhin yong aming bath tub.
Sabi noong ground personnel, you are a Filipinow. So?
Libre na pick-up, minsan may paraffle pa. *heh* o kaya send three for a price of three. May tawaran pa yan ha.
Ang balita.
CALIFORNIA, United States—The balikbayan box industry is facing a huge challenge this year as Department of Homeland Security (DHS) ordered the inspection of every container of balikbayan boxes before being loaded onto ships.
This mandatory inspection of all containers will surely affect the industry. Since DHS has pegged the cost of the inspection at $2,400 per container, balikbayan box forwarders have to charge customers more for shipping and delivery. And the inspection, which lasts about two to three weeks, will naturally delay the arrival of the balikbayan boxes in the Philippines.
Before the slowdown, it took around 24 days from the time the box is received in the forwarder’s warehouse until it is delivered to the door of the beneficiary in Metro Manila. Now it can take up to 35 days.

Menopausal Biatch Moments
Dear insansapinas,
Sabi nga noong Congressman sa Zambales, menopausal bitch daw yong PAL attendant. I was into that Menopausal Biatch Moments
last Saturday when for the first time since hospital discharge, I got out from my cave to go to the international grocery store instead of the store nearby where you can't buy veggies other than for salads. I was rarin' to eat the local vegetables such as ampalaya, talong at saka mayroon pa. hmm hmmm hmmm
Grabeh. Unlike the store nearby where aisles are designed to accommodate at least two grocery carts, that international grocery store has aisles which can only allow one cart at a time. HUSME. Take note walang Puti doon at wala ring Pinoy. (tingin sa salamin). Huwag ninyong itanong. Marunong na silang magtranslate ng blog. Huh. (hingang malalim, hingang mababaw).
Baka nga may maiwan.
Nakachecked-in naman yong aking oven at fridge, mwahahaha,

Entry-Exit Stamps in the Passport-Backdating
Dear insansapinas,
I have been wondering why some celebrities/pols who are allegedly greencardholders can stay and work in the Philippines and multiple entry visaholders can fly in and out of the US without restriction.
This is the answer from Lourdes Tancinco, an immigration lawyer in SF which for the first time, I am posting here in toto for information purposes. I remember now, when a friend called me saying that his friend, a wealthy businessman was detained in the US port of entry because the Homeland Security discovered that he spent more time in the Philippines than the US where he is a permanent resident.

I remember now, when a friend called me saying that his friend, a wealthy businessman was detained in the US port of entry because the Homeland Security discovered that he spent more time in the Philippines than the US where he is a permanent resident.
Racket to fake entry to and exit from the US uncovered
CALIFORNIA, United States—Julian has been a green card holder for many years. He has always been able to enter and depart from the US while maintaining a business establishment in Manila. Unlike most green card holders, Julian spends only one or two months in the US every year and the rest of his time is spent in Manila to run his business.
Allan, on the other hand, is a holder of a “tourist” visa. He has been using his visa to enter the US over the years. During some of his visits, he exceeded his authorized stay in the US. He managed to overstay in the US and get away with it. He did this by having his passport stamped with a backdated arrival date in the Philippines to show that he did not overstay in the US. He was able to do this a couple of times—until his latest trip.
In their last trips to the US, both Julian and Allan’s past deeds finally caught up with them.
When they tried to enter the US, they were both put in secondary inspection. Further examination revealed that the stamps on their passports, regarding their departure from the US and arrival in the Philippines, did not really match their actual departure from the US. The Customs and Border Protection inspector was able to obtain proof of their actual dates of departure.
Julian was put in removal proceedings for abandonment of his green card; while Allan’s visitor’s visa was cancelled at the airport. Allan was put on an expedited removal and was sent back to the Philippines on the same day that he arrived in the US.
Backdating in Manila
For non-immigrant visa holders, the nature of the visa will determine the limitation of stay in the US. The visitor or tourist (B2) visa holder must remain in the US only within their authorized period of stay, which is usually six months. Those who overstay are in violation of the law and will have their visas revoked.
The same rule applies to green card holders. As green card holders, the expectation is for them to work and reside in the US on a permanent basis. This means that they are supposed to stay in the US longer than their stay outside the US.
Considering that the periods of authorized stay in the US are limited for visitor visas, some have been able to overstay without being caught by exhibiting proof of departures or arrivals in the US that are forged. One of the easiest means of showing these forged dates is through the arrival date stamp in our passports. As we arrive in the Philippines from abroad, Philippine immigration authorities stamp our passport with an arrival date. Oftentimes, through “connections” or just through plain fake stamps, the arrival dates in the passport is manipulated to reflect what is commonly called “backdating.” Thus, a person may have actually arrived in the Philippines on December 1 but through “backdating” the stamp in his passport can show that he arrived in the Philippines on November 1, or any other date that he so desires.
Entry-exit stamps
Before 9/11, the former US Immigration and Naturalization Service’s (INS) entry and exit system was not clearly defined. The exit of non-immigrants from the US was usually accounted for by the submission of the departure form that is submitted to the airline one boarded. There is no immigration check and there is no US departure stamp on the passport.
When the US Department of Homeland Security was created to take over the former INS, a more systematic method of tracking entry and exit system was put in place. The US Visitor and Immigrant Status Indicator Technology (US-Visit) program controls and monitors the entry and exit of foreign visitors by storing and processing biometric and biographic information.

Aquino asked people not to judge his Porsche.
Corniko.
Ala Fast and Furious ang dating. Brooommmmm Brooooom.
Toink.
Scratch my head.

Tainted Golden Voice
Dear insansapinas,
I was in the hospital when I saw the news about TED WILLIAMS, the homeless with the Golden Voice. I did not write about him simply because I did not believe that he is already sober and is no longer indulge in drugs. I was WRONG --NOT.
Tainted Golden Voice
The City provides 80 per cent of the cost of the soup kitchen while the organization dips to the pockets of the rich philantrophists for the remaining overhead.Yes, Virginia, the city feeds the hungry thru the charitable organizations which deliver the food program to the marginalized so that they can concentrate more on other government services.
With soup kitchens in almost every block and operating from early morning for breakfasts; some serve lunches and others distribute early packed dinner, the homeless need not work to eat. All they do is join the line of the hungry.
So why are they panhandling? For their drug habits and alcoholic dependency. All their tool is a cardboard, copy a verse from the Bible, (most of the time, they said they had fallen for hard times)
stand by the end of an island in the traffic lights where drivers stop for red lights. They knock on windows...ask for a dollar or for bigger bill (no they do not accept coins like a soda machine ). Then they run to the convenience store to buy alcoholic drinks or get some drug fix which are available in the streets if you know how to spot the pushers. ( naah, they do not push carts). When offices or stores close, the homeless declare their territoriality by putting a lot of cardboards (this time bigger) at its entrances for their night bed.
Early morning, police awake them or put them in jail for vagrancy and the Environmental people hose down the stinks they leave behind with lots of lysol.

Ted Williams, the homeless "golden voice" internet sensation, voluntarily checked into substance abuse rehab for his alcohol and drug dependency after admitting on a television show that he was still drinking, a spokeswoman for "The Dr. Phil Show" said Wednesday.Having worked with a non-profit that feeds the homeless, provides them with free clinic, job training and shelter, I know for a fact that those people panhandling in the streets are begging for money to support their drug habits.

News that make me cry more, Porsche, Amnesty and Publicity
Dear insansapinas,
I have been looking at the news about the poor people affected by the floods down the Southern Luzon and Visayan Region. Sabi magdedeklara raw.
Then I read about the new toy of the President- a Porsche ...hanep
Isa pa Republic Act 6713 or the Code of Ethical standards for public officials and employees states that elected public officials and employees and their families shall lead modest lives appropriate to their positions and income. This part also bans them from indulging in extravagant or ostentatious display of wealth in any form.
SUS.

Then I read about the new toy of the President- a Porsche ...hanep
MANILA, Philippines—President Benigno Aquino III got himself a new toy—a second-hand, white Porsche—last Christmas.
The acquisition sent tongues wagging that the country’s 50-year-old bachelor leader, who is also a gun enthusiast, has started living on the fast lane now that he is in MalacaƱang.
The President swapped his old BMW which he bought two years ago to get his hands on the Porsche, according to a source close to Manny Dimaculangan, a friend who arranged the purchase.

The clarification was made by the bureau after actor Richard Gomez, in interviews published Saturday, said that he has already filed for tax amnesty that's been "granted and approved already."
Divine Justice 4- Where Children can do no wrong
Dear insansapinas,
From CNN:
Compared that to the Philippines, high profile parents whose children were involved in felonies; carnage, murder, rape, illegal drugs and illegal drugs, were short of declaring their children saints by denying they're capable of the crime. Iisa-isahin ko pa ba?
I hope you have seen that episode in Law and Order:SVU where the murderer they've been looking for was a nine year old kid. He killed his playmate, the son of a psychiatrist just because, the latter saw him how he tortured and killed a cat.
The young boy even offered to identify who kidnapped and possibly must have murdered the playmate by pointing to a newly-rehabilitated pedophile. In the course of investigations, all evidences led to the boy who was found to be a pathological liar.
To cut the story short, the boy confessed and he skipped prison because of his age. The father of the victim, in his extreme emotional burst, killed him. He was tried in court but was acquitted by the jury for the reason that he snapped and was not thinking right when he grabbed the pistol of a police and shot the boy.
At the end, he intimated to the ADA that he really planned to kill the boy because the kid was a sociopath and may still kill some more in the future.
From CNN:
The parents of Jared Lee Loughner, suspected in the Tucson, Arizona, shootings that left six people dead and U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords critically wounded, said Tuesday they do not know why the incident occurred and that they are "very sorry" for the loss felt by victims' families.

Leverage and Fil-am Celebrities in Hollywood Part 1
Dear insansapinas,
I am watching the DVDs given to me as Christmas gift by my brother. It is Ellery Queen Mysteries. The CSI, Law and Order, NCIS, Hawaii Five O (the new one) enthusiasts (me, included) may not have heard of the mystery series which were shown in mid 70's. I must have watched the original Hawaii Five O during those years just to appreciate the tsunami-like waves and to listen to the theme music but never understood the storylines. Besides, my eldest brother was the one holding the TV control (no remote yet).
One thing I discovered was that the actor who portrayed the sleuth/mystery writer was JIM HUTTON, the father of TIMOTHY HUTTON,

also an actor and is the main character in the action packed LEVERAGE a TV series about Robin Hoods of the modern times, Jim Hutton died of liver cancer at the age of 44.
Naaah, Timothy Hutton is not a Fil-am. It is the producer/director of LEVERAGE, DEAN DEVLIN who is.
Dean Devlin who ? He was the producer of INDEPENDENCE DAY, remember? Other movies which screenplays he wrote were the STARGATE, GODZILLA and Universal Soldier.
It was his mother, Rita Hernandez who was a Filipino. She was an actress too whose screen name was Pilar Seurat. She appeared in the movie. The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
When she died in 2001 of lung cancer, Dean dedicated one movie for her.
Tia Carrere
Remember her in TRUE LIES with Arnold Schwarzenegger,Jamie Lee Curtis; in the Rising Sun with Wesley Snipes and Sean Connery; Wayne's World and Relic Hunter.Tia Carrere is a Fil-am who is not only an actress but also a singer.
