When Camay Beauties are mentioned, it is the Revilla ladies who come into the picture.There were fashion models and beauty queens but they were not a popular as the Revilla mother and daughters.

Anjanette Abayari

Anjanette Abayari was a beauty title holder from the US who became a movie star in the Philippine cinema.

Singers/Actresses and recording artists were also asked to endorse the beauty soap. One of this was Zsa Zsa Padilla, the long time partner of the Comedy King, Dolphy and herself was the daughter of a movie actor, Carlos Padilla, Jr.

When my girl friends were young and teasing each other as to what beauty soap we used, we would raise our hands and exclaim PAA (erase, erase, erase... CAMAY. I thought, there were only a handful of Camay lady models like the Revilla mother and daughters. I did not know that there were lots of them, mostly movie stars and celebrities.

And surprise, even Bella Flores was a Camay girl. 

According to an article, Camay was introduced in the Philippinnes in 1950 by PMC (Procter ad Gamble).

When Dolphy asked that he be brought home, it was already his spirit who was wishing it. He knew he's going home to where he came from.

Dolphy died at age 83, today, July 10, 2012 a few days shorter his 84th birthday. I will always remember him as John Puruntong, " the Kaya ikaw John, magsumikap ka" in John and Marsha. He has joined his " wife Marsha
(Nida Blanca).

Jessica did not need saving. She was safe. It was Colton Dixon who was eliminated tonight. 

For me, Jessica Sanchez is a better singer than Jasmine Trias but the latter made it to top three because the Filipinos kept on voting for her as Simon Cowell made her realize that the only reason why she was still in the competition was because of the votes.

The winning in the American Idol does not depend only to the judges. The candidate who gets the most phone-in or texted votes  from the viewing public wins.


The Mexican-Asian-voting bloc became too complacent to cast their votes because of the praises of the judges to this sixteen-year old singer. Each candidate is entitled to fifty votes each. The fans of Jessica Sanchez are not the shrieking girl fans of the male contestants. They won't spend more time to use up the available votes for their candidate.  Some of them may even do not know how to text. They're satisfied to hear that Sanchez is one of the best contestansts the AI ever had.

I watched American Idol since the beginning, I lost in the bet for the first season. Reuben Studdard won and Clay Aiken lost. But I still watched. I like Jennifer Hudson but she was eiminated. I did not expect Fantasia Barrino to win. When I left LA, I did not like the contestants. It is only now that I watched again. Muntik pang matanggal si Jessica. Wala naman akong balat.

Pumanaw na si Luis Gonzales

Karamihan sa kabataan ngayon marahil ay di na kilala si Luis Gonzales. Siya ang sumikat noon sa Sampaguita Pictures na madalas katambal ni Gloria Romero. 

Sumakabilang buhay na kagabi, Marso 15, 11:30 p.m. ang beteranong aktor na si Luis Gonzales sanhi ng komplikasyon dahil sa sakit na pneumonia. Si Luis Gonzales ay dating ka-love team ni Gloria Romero nung 1950s sa bakuran ng Sampaguita Pictures.

Ang kaniyang napangasawa ay miyembro ng alta sosyedad na si Vina Concepcion. Several years ago, nainvolved sa domestic violence ang kaniyang anak sa asawa nitong anak ng nagmamay-ari ng  isang mall. Marahil maayos na naman sila.

I like balut but I eat this duck egg only in the darkness  inside a movie house  or while watching a DVD at home while the lights are off. Can't imagine eating the small chick with hair and all. Pero kain pa rin ako. 


Tonight, while watching the Oscars, I decided to eat the balut that we bought from the Filipino store. No chick. The part which is usually hard as a rock was soft although there was not much juice inside. The eggs were big compared to what I usually bought back there in the Philippines. Hindi siguro nagdadiet at naggym yong ducks  para maging sexy.  One website wrongly identified balut as a delicacy of another Asian country. Sabihin na nating kumakain din sila ng balut pero hindi naman siguro balut ang tawag doon. Estopido. But we are not talking about balut here. 


Back to Oscars, I really liked the actress who won the best supporting actress in the movie " THE HELP" , Octavia Spencer.


She was among the guests in the Ugly Betty as the INS agent who fell in love with the illegal father of Betty. She did everything to make him marry her to the point she used her powers. Of course, it was not the way papers are processed for adjustment of status. It was just for the humor side of it . It turned out she  already lost her marbles while pursuing the old man. She was kicked out of the agency but she kept it a secret that her former employer put her under wanted list.  She played her role so well that you would hate her and laughed at her at the same time for being so funny. She deserved to win si Mang Oscar.

Whitney Houston dead at 48

 I love her voice. I watched Bodyguard, because of her songs. Never mind the story. Hindi sila nagkatuluyan ni Kevin Costner. And now she's dead at 48.

The entertainer, whose incredible talent was discovered at an early age, was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. (6:55 p.m. ET) at the Beverly Hilton hotel despite resuscitation efforts, a police spokesman said.

Grace Ibuna Who?

Kasama raw sa last will ni Iggy Arroyo si Grace Ibuna. Tiyak away itong katakot-takot ng legal na asawa. Pero walang panalo si Aleli sa London na mas pinapaboran kung sino ang may power of attorney at siyang inilagay sa next of kin.


Sino ba si Grace Ibuna? Aside from knowing that she had a short-lived affair with Gabby Concepcion at nagproduce ng isa pang daughter na si Garie Concepcion, walang masyadong alam ang publiko.

Daughter of a mayor
Ibuna is the daughter of Nicanor Castillo Ibuna, for 12 years the mayor of San Juan, Metro Manila, where Grace was born in 1965. Her parents were engaged in the brokerage, travel and export-import business, so that Grace was from a young age quite exposed to entrepreneurship.
She remembers how even when she and her four siblings were quite small, their parents would bring them to their offices on Saturdays. When she was 9, she was already working in her parents’ shoe factory and store at the Cubao Shoe Expo during summer and Christmas vacations.
She began at the bottom, working as an errand girl, going to the bank, typing and filing documents.
“We were not spoiled brats. We were really trained to work because my dad’s thinking was that if anything happens to one of them, we could survive on our own,” says Grace.
As an incentive, apart from giving them an allowance, her parents would bring the children on trips abroad. The parents would also take the children on trips out of town on weekends, going to the beach, hiking in Mayon Volcano, boating around Taal Lake, taking the train to Bicol, having overnight stays in Montalban, or going to Palawan.
In business at 15
According to Grace, when she was still in high school (Dominican College), she promised she would support herself through college.
At age 15, she said she already had her own chandling business (supplying goods for ships).
She initially took up psychology in college, but later shifted to interior design.
“I was studying from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, then I was working from 1 p.m. onwards,” earning lots of money, she said.
“That’s why I was able to save and travel a lot,” she said with a glint in her eyes.
She later engaged in a trading venture, exporting fingerlings to Taiwan and Hong Kong.
In 1984, she put up a travel agency, the Grace Travel and Tours Corp., with offices on Mabini St. in Ermita, Manila.
“I really love to travel. It’s the easiest way to be traveling around,” said Grace, who had wanted to be a flight stewardess, but her parents did not allow her.
She says her family is very clannish, “very close but we respect each other’s individuality.”

But when any member needs help, “we run to the rescue,” she says.
She recalls how when she and siblings were young, right after dinner, the family would gather in one huge room.
“Here, we would sit, tease and joke with one another. My dad and I would read a book. My mom and siblings would sing. My parents had a big, big bed where we could all lie together and relax. The structure of the house was very open, homey. We had 7 bedrooms, but we stayed in one room most of the time,” she says.
Believer in dreams

She is quite active in sports—swimming, basketball, obstacle race, scuba-diving and shooting. She also loves to read, her reading fare consisting of books by Sidney Sheldon, James Clavell and Jeffrey Archer, among others. She also likes to read books about the supernatural, being a believer in dreams.
“I’ve a lot of prominent dreams that came true. I dream the way it happens,” she said.Of her “forbidden” love for Arroyo, she said: “I felt I was selfish. When you fall in love, you worship the person you fall in love with”.“You forget about God, but God makes you realize one way or another…Even if it was painful I learned so much,” she said.
Nowadays, she finds solace from reading the Bible to develop an interpersonal relationship with God and to be a better Christian.
“I can’t say I am born-again. I may offend some people. People would expect you to be good and better, to change 360 degrees. But I am still a human being,” she says.
Doting mother
Grace has three children, a daughter by actor Gabby Concepcion and two sons by estranged husband, Joseph Javier.
She is a doting mother. She gave her all-out support to daughter Garie Concepcion who appeared in “Umagang Kay Ganda” on ABS-CBN last November.
“I have trained my children to be survivors, not to be scared of being alone. I have trained them to stand on their own two feet. What if I die tomorrow? At least my children could survive, eating three times a day with or without me. That’s the essence of life—to live and to survive,” she says.
She says she has yet to set a date for her return.
“So many things to be done”, she says.

The Fairy Tale -Back to the Drawing Board

In the far away kingdom in Asia, lives a prince. He is one of the attractions in the celluloid palace. But the prince appears that he is not what he claims to be. No worry, thought the publicity arm of the kindom. As long as there are women who'll  shriek to the "kilig" moments, they can always come up with damage control plan. In the past, every time his secret life was at the risk of being revealed by  the kingdom's press, the publicity group paired him with the most popular princess. Then the romance simply faded away.


In the last few years, he became bolder. His sightings with his special friends worried the think tank machine. So, what was best decision was to pair him with another beautiful princess.  The princess must have already an inkling of his personality but she has fallen...madly in love or she was challenged that she can change him.  She liked to give up several times but she would find herself going back to his arms again. Kilig din siya. Never mind if it is just for a show.  While she was crying buckets of tears, the prince would just dismiss it as simply as lovers' quarrel.


But then another talk show needs a new " pakulo". So came the interview. Would you believe that the counts and the countesses did not give their blessing for the " tell-but-not-really-tell-all" interview? Would you believe that they can afford their prince to lose his fans? There should be the do's and don'ts to define the boundaries of the expose. The people waited with bated breath. Is he or is he not? The revelation was a disappointment however. It just  made the issue  full of more questions. Congrats to the think tank. They made people glued to their seats while the couple was singing love songs to people who are unaware of the status of their love story. 


No mention of the real cause of the split." Make it vague". could have been the order. Let the viewers come up with conclusion.  The prince's mystic is going to be protected. He's a moneymaker of the kingdom.

Once Upon a time, there was a princess. She fell in love madly with a  prince charming. The relationship was said to be doomed from the start because the princess felt that the prince does not behave like a good boy friend should.

There had been rumors that they are already separated but in the kingdom, separation should be certified authentic by the publicity office which claims exclusive and explosive interview of the parties concerned by a host who pretends to think before asking question when in fact, it is already scripted.

Yesterday, there was an interview done but there was nothing new that was discussed. The most awaited moment of truth did not come. The palace should protect the other party. He is also one of their royalties. What was implied in the interview was that the princess can no longer bear heartache of knowing that his prnce is really her FAIRY godmother. Baka nag-agawan sila ng pink undies.

The Agony of a Mother

There were reactions in the twitter on the latest circus in town--the Revilla murder case.  One was from AuPijuan who was the a former Miss International and the other ones were from people whose agony of a mother is a good source of entertainment.  Au Pijuan asked  the public to pray for the family.

Goodnight tweeps! Lets say a prayer for the Revilla family... they are going thru a very painful time. one dead, one jailed, one fugitive.

One commenter who may be a little starlet (notice the redundancy) expressed her enjoyment of reading the news while another took a jab of the physical attribute of the mother Genalyn by insinuating that if she is a lechon, he will not even dare to taste her. 

I do not know the fuss about the change in testimony of Ramona. It has always been the reminders to the police in the Law and Order police authority by the DA office to get testimonies which would fly because even the self-confession can be thrown out as evidence. 

I am not sure if we have the Miranda Law but it seems all testimonies and interrogations were made without the presence of a lawyer.

Why fret if the statement  was done with the help of a lawyer. That is precisely what they are  being paid for. Their assistance ensures that even suspect' rights are not violated. 

Why would a broadsheet make it a headline that it is all over when Ramona fled? Is the case already solved or closed? 


 Was there a hold departure order issued by the Court? If Ramona is not coming back, is it the authorities' fault that she was not charged within some given time so that her flight risk is minimized.
