Count your blessings

Dear insansapinas,

For months, two teenaged girls were allegedly drugged by their father each time he raped them as their mother held their arms to prevent any struggle.
The sisters’ ordeal only ended when the father allegedly raped a third victim—a classmate of one of his daughters—who was able to escape and report the abuses to the police.
The blood-curdling picture of parenting warped by drugs and diabolic lust emerged with the father’s arrest on Thursday in Quezon City.
Supt. Crisostomo Mendoza of the Novaliches police substation said the sisters, aged 14 and 16, were allegedly forced by their 33-year-old father to take “shabu” before they were raped. The suspect’s 35-year-old live-in partner, the girls’ mother, allegedly helped her man perpetrate the crime by firmly holding the girls in place as they were being ravished.

Nawawala.

Babuyan- My Last Lecture

Dear insansapinas

Two-day ‘holiday’ to protest meat smuggling, importation
THE supply of fresh meat was tight Friday after hog and chicken growers declared a pork and poultry holiday to protest the government’s inability to stop the rampant smuggling and over-importation of meat.
No sireee, hindi sila pwedeng matulog. Hindi pwedeng tulo laway. Tseh.

Thirty years.

Wala akong gana. Masarap naman ang ulam. Smoked bangus.

So, mahina ako nang magising ako. Kaniya-kaniyang kapalaran talaga yan.

So unti-unti akong bumangon.

Dear insansapinas,

Yessss, Virginia, once a year, an employee can bring a child to his/her workplace here in the US.

Mainit. Whooo.

Filipino Nurses Wanted

Dear insansapinas,

OOpps. This is not an advertisement. This is a blog about US Ambassador Cuisia's opinion on DC Counciman Barry's unfair statement about Fiipino nurses.
For a person who was admitted in the hospital four times in less than two years, let me discuss this issue on both sides.
In fairness, this is the side of Barry:
“[N]o offense,” Barry said, “but let’s grow our own teachers, let’s grow our own nurses, and so that we don’t have to go scrounging in our community clinics and other kinds of places, having to hire people from somewhere else.”
Barry said nursing schools in the district should train local residents to work in the health industry and deal with nursing shortages.
Even before he made the statement, he already asked for apology. His statements were more directed towards the hospital and healthcare industry challenging them to come up with a program that would address the shortage of nurses in the US. In the Philippines, can we accept the label of racism if we give preference to our local graduates than the foreigners?

Same is true here in the States. Unemployment is a problem. There are employment opportunities but no locals are trained for such kind of job. As I have said, I was admitted in the hospital four times and in these times, there were not so many locals who graduated from the nursing program. What Barry may not realize is  that this is not the kind of profession or career that is desired by the local residents. What they may want are something that are in the mainstream like computer; something which can give them fast bucks with little investments. It is very expensive to study nursing in the US and second, it involves lives of people which is a big responsibility for people who want easy, risk free living. I wrote in one of my hospital admissions about a local  RN graduate  who could not even put the IV back to my arm. It took a Filipina nursing aide to do it.

In my second admission, I observed a  very much in demand nursing assistant among the patients because of his dedication and industry. Guess who he is. He is a Filipino. And yesterday, as I have written in my blog, I met another Filipino who is tidy looking among those whose uniforms need a little tender care from the laundry and iron. That's what makes us different from others.

Compared to California where you can not walk another square meter without bumping into one Filipino is the number of nurses employed in DC area. The ratio is one Filipina nurse for every ten. The low ratio is not only because of preference in hiring. It is also the weather. Filipinos prefer California climate. No ice, consistent cold weather especially in the Bay Area. Here in the East Coast, snow makes it difficult for many of the Filipinas to commute especially those who are assigned in the graveyard shift where there are no available transportations.

Masyado na yata tayong onion-skinned.

Anong Poverty?

Dear insansapinas,

In my blog, Patayin si Poverty, I expressed my disagreement on the reason why most Filipinos do not have bank accounts. The BSP head blamed it on poverty while I criticized the banking system's inability to attract depositors because of the policies and practices in the industry which do not work favorably for them.

Among the headlines today is putting Export& Industry Bank under receivership. It had closed its doors to depositors by declaring bank holiday. Athough the  state-run deposit insurer PDIC is going to pay the deposits only a certain amount is qualified under insurance. The depositors for sure would lose a lot of money.

Taga Saan Ka

Dear insansapinas,

Alas tres, gising na ako. May appointment ako sa ospital ng 7:00. Pag natulog pa ako, baka magising ako ng late.

Biro ng nasa registration, did you bring your lunch with you? Sabi ko naman, Not only lunch but also dinner.

Ahek. I think I got a leak, sabi ko. Natawa yong radiotech.

Actually, talagang may gap yong injection at yong scanning.

Kahit tubig.  Kahabang hallway ang nilakad ko. Maliwanag naman ang daanan.  Sa dulo may nakita aking wheel chair na may nakaupo. Ngiiiiiiiii

Hindi nila naiintindihan ang sinasabi nila

Dear insansapinas,

I just read an article giving a thumbs up on  the implementation of K-12 . I do not know but I got the drift that the writer does not understand what she is talking about.  When I wrote a few blogs earlier that I did not find the curriculum for the K-12 yet, I have not really come across the curriculum of this new education program . So when I saw the words new curriculum linked by the writer to some materials/articles, I thought it was really the curriculum. Guess what?  She does not know what a curriculum is. One article that was linked was a justification of the K-12 offering.
Wikipedia defines curriculum as:
Curriculum has numerous definitions, which can be slightly confusing. In its broadest sense a curriculum may refer to all courses offered at a school. This is particularly true of schools at the university level, where the diversity of a curriculum might be an attractive point to a potential student.A curriculum may also refer to a defined and prescribed course of studies, which students must fulfill in order to pass a certain level of education.
So I am looking for these courses that are going to be offered--math, science, language, blah blah in lieu of the current curricular program. Eh sinabi, the curriculum will be done in phase. Ano? If you are constructing a house, is the plan done in stages too? Di ba you have already the floor plan/architectural design even before you start

buying the construction materials.

The objective of enhancing the employability of the students as early as kindergarten is absurd. The objective could be providing a more solid foundation to prepare the students for  high school where the end objective is to provide them not only knowledge but  to equip them with skills so they can join the labor market even before college.

When I was in  academe, there was a year when  curriculum preparation was my breakfast, lunch, dinner and  snacks. The committee would subject me to "interrogation" as to why some subjects were to be offered; why were these subjects offered first and why some general education subjects had to be removed from the program. The questioning was so intense that I  mumbled words /subjects in business even I was deep in my sleep. Before the curriculum was approved, I had to carry reams of paper and all colors of highlighters in the back seat of my car wherever I went. Parusa talaga.

Then kahit yata pigain ko ang aking utak, I can not understand why this is so.

1. 1. The K-12 will solve the annual growing number of out-of-school youth.
How will the K-12 solve this problem?

My Dream and My Battle

Dear insansapinas,

Baka hindi ninyo type basahin, ok lang. Kokonsensiyahin ko naman kayo.

Tomorrow, I will have three types of imaging labworks starting 7: am. Indeed, it is scary and tiring.

Talangka pa siguro pwede dahil walang talangka dito.

Soup and Water

Dear insansapinas,

Eight to 15 per cent? Wha? Bakit?

I should know.

Down

Dear insansapinas,

NYaaaaaahhh. Sipa sa aso. Awg (wala pala akong aso).

Tseh. If I know, ipaparocess nila yon sa malapit na lab.

May tsokolate pa yan ha.

Kamote at Nilupak

 Dear insansapinas,

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said the initiatives may range from “recycling” uneaten rice for the next meal to turning to alternative foods.
This is something we can all help with," she said on government-run dzRB radio.

Also, she said that while some restaurants have an initiative to ask customers to order only what they can eat, it would also help if Filipinos used alternatives such as sweet potato.

' No bang mga advice yan ?

(No kidding kahit kuwento lang).

Yum. Nilupak

Patayin si Poverty

Dear insansapinas,

Ano nga ba ang poverty na yan? Patayin na nga yan. Palaging yan ang reasong ibinibigay to explain issues.

MANILA, Philippines - Poverty is the main reason why most Filipinos do not have bank savings, a central bank official said Thursday.
Diwa Guinigundo, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) deputy governor for Monetary Stability Sector, told radio dzMM that he was not surprised with the results of a BSP survey showing that 8 in 10 people in the country don't have bank accounts.
"Alam naman natin, ang ating bansa ay still developing, still an emerging market," he said.

Having a bank account in the United States does not necessarily mean that people have a lot of money and savings.
This is what is being pointed out in the study conducted in the Philippines--poverty is the reason why only 20 per cent of the total population has bank accounts. The study equates bank accounts to savings accounts which is wrong.

Close-Open

Dear insansapinas,

Para akong knock-out kahapon. Coming from the ob-gyne specialist, I could hardly open my eyes. So sleepy and tired. It's been three weeks since my latest surgery and I am not fully healed yet. Ayaw kasing maniwala. I've been insisting that  I still got infection.

Takbo dito, iyak doon, sigaw doon. There was this cute litte boy who tried to engage me in conversation. There was another baby who was laughing every time I made peek-a-boo. I tried to teach her close-open. Bakit wala silang ganoon? Not sure these days. Maybe during my Jurassic days of baby caregiving.

Jessica Sanchez is safe

Dear insansapinas,

Jessica did not need saving. She was safe. It was Colton Dixon who was eliminated tonight.

For me, Jessica Sanchez is a better singer than Jasmine Trias but the latter made it to top three because the Filipinos kept on voting for her as Simon Cowell made her realize that the only reason why she was still in the competition was because of the votes.

Thank you for the grace from corruption

Dear insansapinas,

With all those Fiipino people claiming that what they have accomplished is given by God, I am not surprised at all if the Philippines was rated as the third most religious country. Pag natuwa, Diyos ang tinatawag; paggalit, DIYOS KO PO ang sinisigaw at pagnatatakot, Diyos kohhhhh ang nasasambit.

The issue here is even those that God would not dare do because He has some souls to save and some other "wars" to attend at  His level is attributed to God. Remember the unwanted pregnancy of an actress several years ago where she said that God was with them (short to saying God is watching them do "it"?) The child became a problem because God stopped watching him?

I am wondering why they have to include God in everything they do and say.  Imagine a corrupt official who makes money by "stealing from  people" prays in public to give thanks for the grace he and the people receive.

Imagine ang isang yakyakterang talent manager who announced to the media that her favorite saint is showering her with lots of money (from what?  pimping young ladies if they can not get a movie contract?) because she goes to mass every day.  Does she think that God approves her being protective to her chidren at the expense of other people's lives?

These people equate money with good graces with God. Pag sila maraming pera, mabait ang Diyos.

Happiest Moment

Dear insansapinas,

I did not spend a single cent to enjoy the happiest moment of my life in this world. Naaah Virginia, it was not when I graduated from college nor when I passed the CPA Board Exam. For a woman like me, it could have been when I met the person who I considered my soul mate or when I heard the first cry of my baby. They indeed made me happy but not without the feeling of fright of what's going to happen next. What would I expect given the new opportunities?

For someone who is mababaw- ang- kaligayahan, the happiest moment in my life was going to a picnic when I was five or six years old. O di va. mababaw talaga. Mababaw din ang tubig eh.

Recycling and the Million Dollar Cottage Industry of the Philippines

Dear insansapinas,
mas mahal pa yong bag. Ano kaya ang laman? Isang latang sardinas?
Sus.

I lost ten pounds in a matter of ten days. Even the aroma of the pizza and the breadstick would not stimulate my appetite. Dinner has been recyled for more than three times already.

Filipinos are very good in recycling. Even people are recycled.

Kung may katotohanan man ang sinasabing we are only using 10 per cent of our brain, siguro ang mga botanteng Filipino, one per cent lang.

It is the Ghosts Your Honor

 Dear insansapinas,
I like to find out if the judge is going to grant this family the return of their house deposit. Here in the US, when you rent a home or an apartment, the lease is usually good for a year. Deposits are forfeited and there may be  contracts whereby renters are asked to pay for the whole year even if they are not going to stay in the place for the whole duration of the lease. This family however is claiming that the house is haunted and they have already moved to a hotel because of fear. The owner of the place however is accusing them of leaving because they could not afford the rent. If they can't why did they have to spend for moving in and paid the deposits as required in the contract. This is the story:

A New Jersey couple is suing their landlord for a refund after they said paranormal activity caused them to flee their rental home.
Michele Callan and her fiance, Josue Chinchilla, moved into the home in Toms River, N.J., with Callan’s two children on March 1 and were immediately spooked.
“Three taps on the TV, taps on the shoulder…” Chinchilla told ABC News.
At first they chalked it up to the adjustment period of moving into a new home. But things only got spookier, they said.
Doors opened and closed. The family even claimed they recorded strange voices whispering, “Let it burn.”
The new tenants said that between the menacing voices, flickering lights and clothes mysteriously flying from their closets, they couldn’t take it anymore. They fled the three-bedroom home and checked into a hotel, where they said they have been living since March 13.

Poltergeists ang nakatira sa bahay nila. They won't leave the place not until some rituals are done.

I read  a story about a haunted house where the occupants are Jewish. I did not know that they also believe in holy water.

My First Lecture

Dear insansapinas,

I was rejected the first time I applied to teach. The other applicant who was my friend was attractive and I suspected that the dean my have been  smitten by her charm. (sourgrape pa ako). So I decided to practice my profession for two years. A disappointing experience in the industry made me consider the academe. I applied in one university and without me having to stage a demo, I was accepted  by the Vice-President for Academic Affairs. That gave me the guts to apply in the  university where I applied the first time. I was taken in. I guessed it was because of my enhanced resumes brought about by my two-year experience in the industry. Saka babae yong presidente. (Weno?)

My problem was the first university that took me in first. But before I could even muster my courage to decline the teaching position, my problem was solved without having to concoct a white lie that I was going back to my practice. (Liar), the old man breathed his last . He died.

The dean called for a meeting to distribute the teaching loads. If you are the newbie, expect to get the subjects which (a) have no books available as texts (b) the topics are difficult to explain (c) the schedule of the class either makes you wake up before the angels are already awake or the anghel na mababa ang lipad ay nakakalat na sa kalye.

The senior faculty members are just waiting for you to make boboos and laugh when you do.

It is easier to teach management, marketing, economic and other non-quantitave subjects. The lecturers may just require the students to report. O di va, kunti ang trabaho. Not for accounting  subjects. Either the students solve the problem or the teacher presents the solution. Contrary to the belief of some, not all book publishers provide solutions. I solved them myself  right in my textbook. So my books had a lot of notes. It would be a disaster if I lose the book and a student finds it.

Many a time, I prepared my own problems especially if they were meant for quizzes.

Oh I forgot, my title is MY FIRST LECTURE so I will tell you my experience of my first lecture.

Batteries Not Included

Dear insansapinas,

The whole day, Saturday, I was in pain so I stayed in bed and read a novel about royal families. Ganon pala sila.

When in pain, I feel depressed and would pray for tsunami, for rocket launch, earthquake and other calamities to come.  (Nandadamay pa. *heh*) Ayaw ko namang magtake ng painkiller. Baka mamatay yong pain.  *heh* ulit. There are  people who take their lives when they're depressed.  But wait, suicide is a crime in some countries. In UK, until 1961, it was considered a crime with stiff penalties.

Few people realize  that derpression that leads to suicide is a kind if mental disorder; not necessarily insanity. Experts are developing  an experimental treatment for depression where battery-operated electrodes are implanted in the patient's brain to control some brain activities.

Pwe.

Why Was Jessica Sanchez Almost Eliminated from American Idol?

Dear insansapinas,

The winning in the American Idol does not depend only to the judges. The candidate who gets the most phone-in or texted votes  from the viewing public wins.

The Mexican-Asian-voting bloc became too complacent to cast their votes because of the praises of the judges to this sixteen-year old singer. Each candidate is entitled to fifty votes each. The fans of Jessica Sanchez are not the shrieking girl fans of the male contestants. They won't spend more time to use up the available votes for their candidate.  Some of them may even do not know how to text. They're satisfied to hear that Sanchez is one of the best contestansts the AI ever had.

If the fans of Jessica Sanchez want her to win, VOTE FOR GOODNESS Sakes.

Jessica Sanchez in the Bottom three?

Dear insansapinas,
Jessica Sanchez ELIMINATED from AMERICAN IDOL  BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH but she was saved by the judges. BEH.

I watched American Idol since the beginning, I lost in the bet for the first season. Reuben Studdard won and Clay Aiken lost. But I still watched. I like Jennifer Hudson but she was eiminated. I did not expect Fantasia Barrino to win. When I left LA, I did not like the contestants. It is only now that I watched again. Muntik pang matanggal si Jessica. Wala naman akong balat.

Unidentified Flying Object

Dear insansapinas,
Update: Seoul– North Korea’s rocket disintegrated into several pieces and the debris fall into the Yellow Sea off South Korea, Yonhap news agency said.

photocredit
Parang yong poem na, I shot an arrow into the air; it fell to earth, I knew not where.

Parang Hinnnnnng (sound of take -off, then PLOINK)

Nakangiti kaya sila?

Japan's defence minister said that North Korea had launched a "flying object" that fell into the ocean after a short flight. The flying object is believed to have flown for more than one minute and fallen into the ocean. This does not affect our country's territory at all."

Hmm parang may nabasa akong thriller na nawala yong buong submarine. Walang trace. BURP.

http://www.cnn.com/2012/04/12/world/asia/north-korea-launch/index.html?hpt=hp_t3
Japanese missile defense systems scanned the skies above Tokyo and Okinawa. Japan has threatened to shoot down the North Korean rocket if it is seen threatening its territory.

MANILA, Philippines – Several provinces went on alert as the 5-day window for North Korea's rocket launch began. In Baler, Aurora, several fishermen sailed despite the local government's warning that rocket debris could fall into the sea.Authorities followed the fishermen and ordered them to return to shore. The fishermen are now worrying about how to feed their families for the next few days.

Tseh.

An Angel or a Kidnapper

Dear insansapinas,

I fell from a chair so I can not write (para bang yong paa ko ang susulat). hehehe.
Last Monday, the "Terminator" was supposed to come. Time for pest control.  She came late  afternoon. Kainis. I was deprived of my daily nap. Although she had the keys, I would like to talk to her regarding the "flying rodents", the pigeons. They nestled in the trees in front our balcony and left their poos all over.

The following day, Tuesday, I had an appointment with my oncologist. I did not call the transport service. I hate waiting for the driver. Nahahigh blood ako.  I decided to take the bus. The bus stop was just a few meters away from our residence.

After the doctor, I was feeling sleepy while waiting in the bus stop. I was also having nosebleed because of allergy. A woman who was walking her dog, approached me and asked me  if I was okay. I told her that I was and  I thanked her for the concern.

Then the man with sleeping bag (it was clean), big tote bags and a jacket came. He put all his belongings to the bench while he was standing outside the bus stop waiting for the bus to come. A mother- daughter also came but stayed outside the bus stop too.

I side-glanced at the things of the man. They're clean for a bum. Baka bagong bum lang. My eyes were still drooping and my nose was still bleeding. Para akong tulog na naglalakad.

I boarded the bus when it came. So was the man and so were the ladies. At the nearest bus stop close to my home, I got off. The man stopped also the bus and got off. Hmm, dito ba bababa yon?

Tataas ba O Bababa

 Dear insansapinas,

Tataas ba o bababa?

Ito ang balita sa isang diaryo.
The Philippine economy is now expected to grow at a much faster pace of 4.8 percent this year on higher public spending, investments and private consumption, the Asian Development Bank said Wednesday.
The Manila-based multilateral lender also projected in its Asian Development Outlook 2012 the country’s gross domestic product growth would accelerate to 5 percent in 2013, after posting a lackluster 3.7-percent expansion last year.
Ito naman ang balita sa isang diyaryo.

http://www.interaksyon.com/article/29128/adb-cuts-2012-growth-forecast-for-philippines
MANILA, Philippines - The Asian Development Bank (ADB) cut its economic growth forecast for the Philippines to 4.8 percent.
The Manila-based lender in September last year forecast Philippine gross domestic product (GDP) to grow by 5.1 percent this year. For next year, the ADB forecast growth of five percent.

The Headlines without the head

Dear insansapinas,

There is a tabloid-like daily which publishes news over and over again. They just changed the viewpoints and used the same article.

1.Abad: No politics in strict pork barrel rules-

                         2. Girl in skimpy shorts poses in front of cross, sparks outrage.
A priest mentioned about Mary Magdalene to defend the tourist. (Is she  a tourist? if she is a  she should know that there are stuff in the foreign countries that ought to be respected or else...
Besides, it was not Mary Magdalene who was spared by Jesus from stoning. It was a an adulteress.

I do not care, if one does not believe in God. I do not care if she does not believe in hell but she should be respectful on what others believe in. The word is not Mary Magdalene. The word is RESPECT.
